Batik is a dyeing technique that involves applying wax to a fabric using a specific brush or pad. The parts covered with wax will be "hidden" from the dye, creating a more or less elaborate pattern. Like all dyeing and weaving techniques, Batik has travelled from Indonesia to the rest of the world, giving rise to many ethnic and regional variations. A medium of artistic and plastic expression, the batik technique has adapted to local cultures and resources, offering an incredible variety of styles.
Issey Miyake used the Batik technique to create a range of garnments with complex details and patterns. Combined to his genius designs, the spring 2001 collection showed truly impessive masterpieces.
